PV system in Ho-Chi-Minh City: up to 120 megawatt hours of electricity per year
Fronius supplies inverters for solar project in Vietnam
Application Story
2018/03/06
A
regulated feed-in tariff for solar power has been in place in Vietnam since the
end of 2017. For many private individuals and companies, this is an incentive
to invest in renewable energies. As a specialist in solar technology, Fronius
Solar Energy is supporting system operators in the country with high-quality,
easy-to-install inverters and a unique service plan with local partners in the
region. Fronius recently supplied inverters for a PV system in Ho-Chi-Minh
City, which will generate up to 120 megawatt hours of electricity per year.
The
photovoltaics market in Vietnam has enormous potential, with extremely high
levels of insolation all year round in the central and southern areas of the country.
Despite this, the topic of solar energy is relatively new here; a regulated
feed-in tariff was only introduced at the end of 2017. The government has set
itself the goal of installing PV systems with a total output of twelve
gigawatts within the next twelve years. Fronius Solar Energy has also
recognised this potential and is supporting private and commercial system
operators with its vision of 24 hours of sun, a future in which 100% of the
world's energy needs are covered by renewable sources. The company's portfolio
comprises innovative inverters and targeted on-site services thanks to the
unique Fronius Service Partner programme. "Our Fronius Service Partners have to complete special training courses
in which they learn everything about the correct installation, commissioning
and maintenance of the components", explains Hans-Georg Einwagner,
Area Sales Manager at Fronius Solar Energy. "This means that we can offer our customers maximum service quality."
As our Fronius Service Partners can perform PC board replacement on the device
itself, all systems can be serviced with just one visit. This helps the system
operator to significantly reduce the costs of generating electricity using the
PV system over its entire service life.
Active Cooling
Technology increases the service life of inverters
In
addition to smaller systems for private households, Fronius has also supplied
the first inverters for a major project in Ho-Chi-Minh City in Vietnam. The
roof-mounted system has an output of 76.6 kWp and will generate up to 120
megawatt hours of electricity per year. The main challenge for this project is
that the average temperature at the site is over 30 degrees Celsius. In
conventional inverters, these high temperatures can lead to overheating of the
electronic parts; an increase of just ten degrees Celsius can halve the service
life of the devices. To avoid this eventuality, the operators in Vietnam opted
for three Fronius Eco inverters. "These
inverters have Active Cooling Technology. Fans fitted to the exterior
constantly cool the device which extends its service life", explains
Einwagner. Even in regions with high ambient temperatures, the inverters
deliver their full output power and maximum yields. What's more, there are no
restrictions when it comes to installing the inverters. They can be fitted
flat, vertically or horizontally and are therefore suitable for a range of
application areas.
The Active Cooling Technology on the Fronius Eco constantly cools the inverters, extending their service life.
As a solar technology specialist, Fronius Solar Energy supports system operators in the country with high-quality, easy-to-install inverters and a comprehensive range of services delivered through local partners in the region.
