Optimising self-consumption using home automation

Manuel Hörzenauer could definitely be called a tech geek. In both his professional and home life, he takes a keen interest in the relationships between technical systems and the potential offered by intelligent systems. Hardly surprising then that he installed a Loxone home automation system alongside a photovoltaic system when his new home was being built.

“We control almost everything in the house using the Loxone home automation system - from the blinds to the air source heat pump and the alarm system,” confirms Manuel Hörzenauer. The integrated energy management system enables certain consumers to be turned on and off as appropriate. For example, the shutters are closed automatically once the temperature in the house reaches a certain level.

“For me it is important to know how we are using energy. Even though we are out of the house all day, we use around a third of the solar energy we produce ourselves. I think we owe it to our children to actively seek ways to reduce our CO2 emissions.”
