Innovation
1/03/2020The declared objective of the project consortium* is to create a zero-emission energy cycle in Alpine tourism regions. To achieve this, hydrogen is produced using power generated by the associated photovoltaic system and the refuelling system has been developed with a fleet of snowmobiles and tested under real-life conditions in the Hinterstoder ski resort.
Short refuelling times and comparatively high ranges ensure high vehicle availability.
The grand opening of the refuelling system took place in the unique setting of the world cup arena in Hinterstoder in the presence of all the project partners and high-ranking guests from the worlds of politics and environmental protection. In addition to interesting lectures held under the motto “HyFuture – Hydrogen, the Future of Mobility”, the main focus was on the presentation of the hydrogen-powered snowmobiles.
As a project partner, Fronius not only contributed to the project by providing important components for the infrastructure of the refuelling system, but also the energy source for producing the hydrogen in the form of the two Symo inverters for the installed photovoltaic system. The company’s many years of experience in hydrogen technologies were invaluable when it came to designing and implementing the system.
This expertise in the area of solar hydrogen came into its own in particular when developing the Solhub. The innovative system enables municipalities, commercial enterprises and businesses to not only produce and use green hydrogen locally, but also to store it and convert it back into electricity as needed.
