ROHLIG SUUS Logistik (RSL) is one of Poland’s largest logistics service providers. It employs around 1400 employees and generates a turnover of almost two billion euros. RSL primarily operates in the areas of contract logistics; sea, air, road and rail transport, intermodal freight transport, project cargoes and customer services. The company maintains a total storage area of 200,000 square metres, spread over multiple logistics centres and hubs.
Since 2013, RSL has been running a fleet of battery-operated counterbalanced lift trucks for goods handling at its warehouses and cross-docking terminals. The fleet is generally required to operate around the clock. As a result, many of the forklift trucks are fitted with two batteries. The challenge is to run a fleet made up of several different types of forklift trucks that are powered by different batteries with varying voltages and capacities. Conventional charging technology requires batteries to be matched with a specific charger – any errors could result in expensive damage to the battery.
From the very beginning, ROHLIG SUUS has relied on the Selectiva chargers from Fronius. The automatic voltage detection allows batteries with different nominal voltages to be charged, which prevents operating faults. Regulated charging protects the batteries and ensures they remain available in the long term. ROHLIG SUUS is also well prepared for any future changes, whether this involves expansions or modifications, since the devices themselves, and also the connections and infrastructure, are all standardised.
