Headquartered in the city of Linz, Schachermayer is a wholesaler for the wood, metal and glass processing industries. The company’s product range numbers roughly 150,000 items, the majority of which are held in stock at all times and can be delivered throughout Austria and its neighbouring countries within 48 hours. Schachermayer’s central warehouse is home to 160 electrically-powered forklift trucks, including counterbalance trucks, low and high platform stacking trucks, order pickers and special vehicles.
In order to optimise energy efficiency in the wholesaler’s logistics operations, Fronius was awarded a contract to examine the battery charging process in closer detail and make proposals for modern, energy-saving solutions. Fronius saw to its task using its own proprietary software tool, the I-SPoT calculator, which records and visualises a forklift truck fleet at various locations, right down to the individual departments within a location. Using the data it provided, the experts were able to determine the possible benefits and savings that could be achieved in terms of energy costs, battery life, CO2 emissions and maintenance costs.
The results of the analysis prompted Schachermayer to immediately replace 69 of the 50 Hz devices they had previously been using with Fronius Selectiva Plus battery charging systems. Thanks to their Active Inverter Technology, these devices can achieve an efficiency level of up to 96 percent and therefore reduce energy consumption, cut CO2 emissions and accelerate the charging process. As a result, Schachermayer saw its energy costs for battery charging reduced by approximately 30 percent.
