AMAG relies on Fronius Welding Technology for Aluminum Cladding Station

Partnership

11/02/2019 / Ranshofen, Austria
In mid-February, AMAG opened a new cladding station to manufacture multi-layer composites for the aerospace industry with welding technology supplied by Fronius.

The listed aluminum specialist, AMAG, from Ranshofen in Upper Austria has just made a huge four-million-euro investment in a new high-tech cladding station for manufacturing multi-layer composites. The materials are predominantly used in the aerospace and heat exchanger industries. The system was officially opened on February 11, 2019.

Plates and aluminum ingots are welded then heated up and rolled in the cladding station. The automated welding system is the technological heart of the station. AMAG relies on technology from Fronius here in the form of two independent welding systems that combine the aluminum layers. The systems are equipped with CMT Twin, in other words double-wire welding heads that use the “cold” welding process, Cold Metal Transfer. The process results in a very high welding power with a low heat input and minimal spattering, allowing it to support the high productivity level of the cladding station. The HMI-T10 system controls from Fronius control all the welding system’s movements as well as the power sources. Mechanical engineering company Fill implemented the construction project as a general contractor.
