Welding for a good cause: TransPocket goes to Africa!

Volodalen is active in Benin and located in the city of Tohoué in the south of the country and has been active since 2007. HABU spent a month in Tohoué with the desire to support a charitable project and hold a local welding course. He is a member of the aid-organization Volodalen and is responsible for the execution of construction projects on site. Fronius provided the right equipment with a TransPocket electrode welder and the necessary protective equipment.

HABU taught a welding course in the basics of electrode welding to five people. This included basic theoretical knowledge, topics such as welding safety and eye protection, but also welding techniques, material properties and risk assessment. The participants between the ages of 22 and 30 showed great commitment, especially in the practical part, and were proud of their first welding results. Here is the video about it, on YouTube.

In addition to the welding lessons, another project on a farm was implemented during the four-week stay, with the help of the Fronius TransPocket. The topic of water supply is fundamental to the farm, the inhabitants and the agricultural land they cultivate.  Using the TransPocket, a matching steel frame was welded for a water tower. The frame supports a five meters high water tank with a volume of 1,000 liters. The water tank is filled by a well that covers the water supply of the entire farm. HABU’s summary of the trip is consistently positive, he takes many moving impressions and experiences home. His goal for the next deployment in the coming year is already clear: the water tower will be expanded by a wind turbine then, which will serve to generate electricity.
