Event

The largest welding technology conference in Central Europe took place online for the first time from September 14-18. Fronius also contributed to the 120 technical presentations, and provided insights into how standardized welding procedure specifications are used in practice.

Specialist presentations on the latest findings from joining technology research, interdisciplinary exchanges, a meeting place for experts – all this is what the congress of the German association for welding and associated processes stands for. The congress is usually held as a two-day event every year. However, 2020 was the first time that the event’s speakers and audience met online for one week.

The Fronius presentation “Third-party experience with the welding procedure specification package according to EN ISO 15612” was given by Tanja Gastinger, Product Management, as well as Manfred Schörghuber and Martin Willinger from Fronius Research and Development. Despite the unfamiliar format, there was a great deal of interest – and interaction and exchange were not in short supply either: “The situation was new for all of us, but the conference went very well. After our presentation, we answered audience questions online and we were met with great interest,” said Schörghuber, pleased with the success of the online congress.

In their presentation, the experts from Fronius International explained the possibilities offered by the EN ISO 15612 standard for saving companies carrying out their own welding procedure tests. The SWPS (Standard Welding Procedure Specification) can be provided by third parties – such as the welding system manufacturer. This is intended to make it easier for small and medium-sized companies, in particular, to manufacture metal structures in compliance with the standard. Schörghuber, Gastinger, and Willinger explained how the SWPS is used in practice and highlighted unused potential.

More information on the WPS packages for steel and chrome-nickel can be found in the service area of the website.
